Extending the Cloud to the Edge: Guide to Using IoT Data to Drive Digital Transformation

Available OnDemand

By 2021 some estimates show the data generated by IoT devices each year will be 500x times more data than is stored in all the clouds combined. This has made the emergence of the intelligent edge inevitable. Simple, scalable, and secure edge computing is the only path to success for any Digital Transformation effort that includes IoT data.

In this webinar, speakers from The Linux Foundation, Microsoft, and ZEDEDA explore what it takes to implement an edge infrastructure today that can accommodate IoT scale and support business requirements by creating a cloud native, intelligent edge. We discuss:

  • How IoT and AI have changed what can happen at the edge and where legacy systems fall short
  • With Azure IoT as a basis for the intelligent edge, how does one extend cloud intelligence to edge devices and its practical use cases
  • Why Open Source is critical to addressing the huge diversity of hardware at the edge and creating standards to address that diversity (LF Edge)

About the presenters:

Greg Manyak, Product Management, Azure IoT Edge, Microsoft

Greg Manyak has been building constrained intelligent systems since college, starting with “CubeSat” nano-satellites. After joining Microsoft as a Program Manager, he’s worked to define and lead efforts to implement technical systems to solve configuration and update of Windows Phone devices at-scale, power management for Surface and similar machines, and Windows to run seamlessly on ARM64 PCs. More recently, he’s moved into the IoT space to help improve management and connectivity for the next wave of intelligent devices, ranging from those running on a microcontroller to utilizing Azure IoT Edge.

Roman Shaposhnik, VP - Prod Strategy, ZEDEDA

Roman is an open-source software expert, currently serving on the board of directors for both The Apache Software Foundation and LF Edge. He is a co-founder and the vice president of product and strategy for ZEDEDA, an edge virtualization startup. Throughout his career, Roman has held technical leadership roles at several well-known companies, including Sun Microsystems, Yahoo!, Cloudera and Pivotal Software. He holds a master’s degree in mathematics and computer science from St. Petersburg State University.
